Matthew was born in New Richmond on June 22, 1999 to parents Eric and Melissa (Peterson) Freeberg. He attended schools in Somerset and recently graduated on May 19th with the class of 2017. Matthew had a tireless work ethic and had worked at Sportsman’s and Float Rite in Somerset and was currently working at Express Lube and Rental in New Richmond. Matthew had just recently enlisted on April 13th in the Army Reserves and was set to start basic training on September 5th where he wanted to be a military police officer. His plans after the military were to attend the University of Wisconsin River Falls to pursue a degree in Criminology and become a police officer. As an avid outdoorsman he loved fishing, hunting, riding his dirt bike and spending time with friends and his family, especially his brothers, sister and niece. Matthew will be remembered as a young man with a huge heart who lived life to the fullest and was always willing to help anyone. Matthew is survived by his mother Melissa (Bart) Bader of Osceola and father Eric Freeberg of Somerset; sister, Baley (Nick) Webster, brothers, Jaden Freeberg, Brett Bader and Connor Bader; maternal grandparents, Steve and Marlene Peterson of New Richmond and Al and Myra Bader of Osceola; maternal great grandparents Bill and Elaine Peterson of Amery and niece Quinn Layer. He is also survived by his girlfriend Bethanie Mangine and many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. Matthew is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harlyn and Maxine Freeberg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osceola with Rev. David Rosenow officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5th at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Osceola and also one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will follow the service at the Amery Cemetery.
